City of Dark Creatures). The final book is called Crown
of Doom and Light. The project was definitely training
ground for me. It was like learning to write all over
again because creating alternative universes is a whole
lot different and more involved than writing fiction in a
fact based world. I’m not sure I’ll get a chance to write
fantasy again, but I enjoyed it.
Venise Jacobs: If some of your other novels are set in
Blink, will some of the background characters be main
characters in new works?
J.D. Mason: They will. I’m keeping a lot of the characters
and incorporating them into future books. So, Marlowe,
Plato and Shou Shou will show up in the next book.
Some of the characters from the novellas will show up
in the novels as well.
Shannan Harper: Is there another genre that you would
like to write in?
J.D. Mason: Yeah, I’m trying to kick off a paranormal
series featuring black werewolves :).
Lawanda Metcalfe: Is this end of Marlowe’s story or will
their be more?
J.D. Mason: Though The Real Mrs. Price is written as
a standalone, there will be more. When a writer falls in
love with a character or characters, it’s hard to let them
go. And I love Marlowe and Plato. So, I’m definitely
planning to bring these two back in future stories.
They’re wonderfully complex characters and their love
story is complicated, so there are a number of different
directions that I hope to see them go.
Plato first briefly appears in other books of a series that
began with Beautiful, Dirty, Rich. I can’t remember if he
first showed up in the second book Drop Dead, Gorgeous
