Girl Fridayz Book Club was conceived out of Karyn Smith-Davis’ love of reading,
so a core group of “sisters” who were interested in the same thing she was interested
in—”a love of reading”—came together and the group, made up of an eclectic
group of “marvelously mature women” was born. The core members of this group
that is based in Buffalo, New York are: Cynthia Battle, Karyn Davis, Chevonne
Frasier, Kimmberlyn Hardy, Rashawn Herndon, Kathleen Johnson, Dorothy
Mellerson, Corrie Napora, Lisa Nevins, Monique Scandrett, Gloria Simpson,
Tanya Smith and Tamarah Woods. Our love of books has taken us places we’ve
never been before and introduced us to friends and foes. But best of all, our
adventure has allowed us to connect with some of the authors we love.
Some members have attended Cavalcade of Authors Tour (Chicago), National
Book Club Conference (Atlanta), and the Book Lovers Cruise (Bahamas). We have
also attending literary/book signing events for ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Kayla
Perrin, Tiffany Warren, Beverly Jenkins, Naleighna Kai, Virginia DeBerry and
Donna Grant. We also Skype with authors at our monthly book club discussions,
like; Vanessa Davis Griggs, Sheila Bell, Yolanda Tonette Sanders and Michelle
Lindo Rice, to name a few. We hope to, as a group get to many more literary
events as we continue in our quest to enjoy books written by authors who have a
wonderful way with words.
