Keshia La ’ Shawn : If there were a particular time in history that you could go to personally research the plot to a story which era or time would that be ?
Piper G Huguley : It is a good question and a hard one to answer . As much as I admire the ancestors for enduring what they had to put up with for our sakes , I don ’ t know if I could pinpoint a time that I would like to see personally . That ’ s why I admire the ancestors so much . My students always are saying , “ Yeah , well if I went back there , I wouldn ’ t put up with it .” Bless their hearts . I think such a response shows a profound ignorance of what happened back then . If I had to go back , maybe to the Obama years ? :) Otherwise , I ’ m pretty good in the 21st century .
Keshia La ’ Shawn : Yes , the Obama years . You must write a story in that era !
Piper G Huguley : Ok ? We are headed into a different time just now . I would like to rewind to Obama ’ s first term . That would be perfect !
Keshia La ’ Shawn : Agreed !!! Anita Roseboro-Wade : What ’ s next for Piper ? New Project ?
Piper G Huguley : Yes , I ’ m working on a contemporary women ’ s fiction story . I ’ m also researching a biographical historical fiction story .
Shannan Harper : Since you ’ re branching off to contemporary women ’ s fiction , will you eventually return to historical fiction stories .
Piper G Huguley : Oh yes . I ’ m researching one right now . It ’ s just not inspirational historical romance . That ’ s what I ’ m looking to wind down . I think I ’ ve made enough of a contribution in that area . Other people are starting to write it . I was glad to see there ’ s a boxed set of AA historical romance coming out . I ’ m not part of that project . If my small efforts helped encourage the growth of AA historical romance in some small way from the seeds that a legend like Beverly Jenkins planted , that ’ s good enough for me .
Shannan Harper : Is there a genre you would like to write in the future ?
Piper G Huguley : I love to read cozy mysteries and I wish there were more of them centered on African Americans . Maybe one day ..... I can ’ t do it all !
Cerece Rennie Murphy : As long as it takes for you to research a book , how do you keep up a steady stream of books ?
