Christine Pauls: Thank you. What tools do you use to do your research? Library, internet, books, etc.? Piper G Huguley: Oh everything. I use it all. Trust and believe, my husband would love it if I had fewer books. He bought my first iPad a few years ago thinking that would help, but no. LOL! Christine Pauls: Nothing like books! Piper G Huguley: Ok?? He just doesn’t get it! Shannan Harper: Piper won Romance slam Jam cover of the year in 2016 with A Virtuous Ruby. Even though I had been reading her books for a minute, that was the first time I had a chance to meet her Piper G Huguley: It was good to meet you there, Shannon! Shannan Harper: You had two different seasoned women on the opposite ends of the spectrum as it pertains to how they treat people. What was the inspiration for Miss Irene and Mrs. Bates. Piper G Huguley: I love your term, Shannan! Seasoned women, LOL. I have to consider maybe getting them to meet one of the other Born to Win Men books. I think Miss Irene would have a few things to tell Effie Bates! I tend to write seasoned women very well, and one thing they usually have in common is they all have a capacity to shock and surprise. Just because someone is older, doesn’t mean that their sexual selves die. So I like to bring that out in them. Effie is based on some of these women who hold on to their sons too tightly. I’m not going to say exactly where I have seen that, but yeah, I think we all have seen that. Shannan Harper: That’s exactly what I was thinking as I was reading the story. In my mind, she was trying to keep Champion so close because her husband was no longer there. Piper G Huguley: Yes. And you know no woman would have been good enough for him in her view. Shannan Harper: Do you think you’ll ever branch out into other genres? Piper G Huguley: Oh, I already have. I’m writing a contemporary now. The Born to Win Men series will be my swan song to historical romance. Shannan Harper: WOW. That’s good to know.
