Years later, living in Englewood as a single mother with a beautiful baby boy, she was
faced with more challenges. The father of her son had been incarcerated since the
baby was three months old, with no possible way of seeing the other side of the bars
anytime soon. Three years later, she entered into another relationship with a man who
was both physically and mentally abusive.
Poor, downhearted, and living off public aid and other forms of government assistance,
Lisa found herself with only $11.42 in the bank. Having to wrap her baby in a towel
because she couldn’t afford diapers was a turning point in her life. That’s when she
knew she’d hit rock bottom. She understood that what she’d been doing all along was
not working for her or the child that depended on her for everything.
Yes, Lisa was broke but not broken. She realized that she had to participate in her
own rescue, as there were no knights in shining armor sweeping through the hood.
Whatever Lisa needed to change her circumstances was going to have to come from
what was already inside of her, and whatever she didn’t have, she could get it. She
didn’t know where or how to achieve that goal at the time, but there had to be a better
way—a better future for her son. She was determined to find and embrace it with
her whole heart and mind. In order to achieve a different result, she had to let go of
everything and everyone that was toxic in her life.
That one step was a defining moment which led to a series of life-changing experiences
that pulled her up from poverty and despair and into a position where she’s now able
to share her story in hopes that it will inspire others.
Today, Lisa Nichols is the CEO of Motivating the Masses, a multi-million dollar public

Her story is one of miraculous change, inspiration, and perseverance. Two of her
books, Abundance Now and No Matter What, illustrate how she strongly believes that
“it doesn’t matter where you start; it only matters where you want to go and the price
you are willing to pay to get there.” Truer words have never been spoken.
