Not a paying gig, mind you, but it’s my work, nonetheless. I’m your new President for the NAILBA Charitable Foundation. To put it simply, the Foundation raises money, so we can give it away to charities in YOUR communities. We encourage volunteerism and philanthropy among NAILBA members and our valued corporate partners. The NAILBA Charitable Foundation funds grants to local non- profits organizations to better the communities where our members live, work and play. Since our inception 15 years ago, the Foundation board continues to place an emphasis on non-profits groups addressing children’s needs. If you are as passionate about our industry as I am, you know we are in this to make a difference, and to protect families and our communities from the unpredictable and sudden changes that life can bring. We know that about ourselves, but it may be less obvious to people outside our industry. Contributing to the Foundation is a powerful expression of your commitment to community and charity. It showcases your good work and good will in the neighborhoods in which you work, play, and raise your families. When the NAILBA Charitable Foundation writes a check to help an organization near you, it not only makes a difference in your community, it makes a statement about you and your business. Of course, on a certain level it comes down to this: Do you have a child? A grandchild? Were you ever a child? When you learn about a child not having a bed to sleep in, how can you NOT help? When you learn about a child who’s not sure if he or she will have dinner, how do you NOT help? When you learn about a child who has been abused, how do you NOT help? When you learn about a child who may not have another birthday, how do you NOT help? So here I am. Raising money to give it away. But I can’t do it without you. Since the Foundation’s start in 2002, we have given out more than THREE MILLION DOLLARS. In the last year alone, we put $265,586 back into your communities for children and families who couldn’t do without it. That’s amazing. And I think we can do more in 2019 – let’s round that number up to $300,000. We have big ambitions this year. We want a donation from EVERY member of NAILBA. Everyone gives. Yep, that’s right. EVERYONE. Let’s not talk about what you gave (or didn’t give) last year or the year’s prior. Let’s talk about now. This year, 2019! I encourage you to count your blessings and then write a check. Even if it’s for a dollar. Donate your coffee shop money. Donate your one night at the movies and popcorn money. Donate your spare pair of name- brand sunglasses money. Do your part today. And tomorrow. And the rest of the year. And with your family and your clients and your staff. How can you NOT help? “We put $265,586 back into your communities for children and families who couldn’t do without it. In 2019, let’s round that number up to $300,000.”
