Perspectives
Q3 2019
Just like bidding in the NAILBA
Foundation silent auction, you never
know the winner until the last second
— when Steve Katz, the flashy and
energetic auctioneer (whose day job at
Premier Brokerage Services pays the bills),
yells “SOLD!” That’s exactly how it felt to
Mark Peterson, EVP and Chief Distribution
Officer, AIG, the highest bidder on this
year’s Kentucky Derby package, donated
to the NAILBA Charitable Foundation’s Live
Auction by AXA and Cincinnati Life.
Mark surprised his wife, Terri Faircloth,
with the Kentucky Derby weekend package
for her birthday — featuring a race ending that
“Was quite a surprise, to say the least,” stated
Terri. “Now I can say I attended the Derby that
everyone will remember!”
Checking off the bucket list
Mark is a strong believer in giving back to the NAILBA Charitable Foundation and came
prepared to make a generous donation during this year’s live auction. He understands the
impact the funds have in local communities and on a national level.
For Terri, “This was a lifetime event for me. Having a love for horses, growing up as a horse-
crazy girl whose big wish every year was to have a horse of my own, and yearly watching the
Derby with my Mom, made this even more than a ‘bucket list’ event for me.”
The packages donated by companies on behalf of the Foundation always include some great
sports memorabilia, high-end luxury items, trips and engaging experiences. That’s why so
many bidders make a point of “bringing their checkbooks” to the annual meeting. They don’t
mind the donation price tags because they know they couldn’t get these packages elsewhere
at these prices and with so many inclusions.
“In addition to the race, we enjoyed the horse farm visits as part of our package. The two
farms were unique from one another and provided an interesting perspective to the horse
racing industry,” commented Terri. Her package was put together by Conference Event
Management to include everything one could wish for in an action-packed weekend getaway
and, according to Terri, she’d highly recommend others join in on the bidding for their own
“top-notch experience.”
Improving children’s lives in your community
Donations to the NAILBA Charitable Foundation directly improve the lives of children in the
communities of NAILBA members, vendors and carrier partners throughout the nation--the
primary reason why so many members of the NAILBA community show up year-after-year with
their generous bids.
