#nailba38 9 Retirees and health care costs: Protecting your clients’ assets Why consider a home health care policy for clients: Valuable benefits — Rather than going to a nursing home, patients recovering from an illness, injury or surgery can receive medical services at home. Preventive care — Benefits include reimbursement for prescription drugs and regular check-ups — physical, eye, dental and hearing exams — all are important tools for early diagnosis of an illness. Affordable premiums — Not all clients can afford to buy or keep a long-term care policy. A Home Care policy with benefit riders may cost under $600 for 65-year-old. When creating a retirement strategy for your clients, potential health care costs could be one of their largest expenses and can’t be ignored. Traditionally long-term care (LTC) insurance has been part of the solution to help mitigate this risk, but what about those situations when your client can’t pass underwriting requirements or afford the premiums? Also, a long-term care policy may not address the trend of patients receiving care and medical services at home. Studies show that, overall, more people use long-term care services at home (and for longer) than in facilities. Such options for long-term care are increasingly popular, in part because of the desire to remain in one’s own home. 1 When asked, almost 90 percent of adults aged 50 and over want to stay in their own home, for as long as possible. 2 Simplified underwriting — No medical exam is required and only a handful of yes-or-no questions are asked. Supplement to a LTC policy — A Home Health Care policy can help fill any gaps in coverage, particularly during any elimination period. The bottom line is that you and your clients should have options when it comes to managing the risks of health care costs during retirement. A Home Health Care policy can help provide solutions to the challenges retirees face with health care expenses. 1 ACL.gov, Administration for Community Living and Administration on Aging; 2017 Profile of Older Americans, April 2018 2 AARP Public Policy Institute, 2009; US Census Bureau, 65+ in the United States: 2010, Issued June 2014 Provide peace of mind for your clients Our Home Health Care policy helps your clients get the care they need in the privacy and comfort of their own home.
