Membership Committee

Professional Learning Committee Report

In the fall of 2019, the Professional Learning Committee conducted a national survey to gain knowledge of what is currently in practice, and assess the needs of our professional community. Survey participants included State Administrators, District EL Program Administrators, EL Bilingual/Dual Language Teachers, EL Coaches, EL Leaders, EL Consultants, Content Teachers, Curriculum Leaders and Faculty Researchers of Higher Institutions of Learning.

The Professional Learning Committee is currently compiling and analyzing the data so that it can be used to help us provide guidelines about systemic and improvement-oriented professional learning. An update was provided to the membership at the NAELPA Annual Meeting in February 2020.

Communications & Membership

Committees Report

The Communications and Membership Committees work together! Communications focuses on sending out information via email, Facebook, Twitter, and this newsletter. Follow our Facebook page @NAELPAforELs and our Twitter @NAELPAforELs to join the virtual conversations or use #NAELPA to tag items to share with each other. The purpose is to keep our membership informed about upcoming events including meetings, conferences, and webinars in addition to relevant information related to national research, USED and OELA updates, and current information that may impact LEAs and SEAs serving ELs.

The Membership Committee focuses on retention and recruitment of members, including hosting NAELPA booths at conferences such as the one pictured here at NABE 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Currently, our NAELPA Membership consists of 171 active members! Please share this newsletter with your EL colleagues and encourage them to join us—see the back page for how to join NAELPA or how to renew your membership.
