A few Solutions: Microchipping and Alert Websites
There are a few Veterinarians (see classifieds next
page) in Vietnam that will tag your dog with a
microchip. A microchip implant is an identifying
integrated circuit placed under the skin of a dog.
The chip, about the size of a large grain of rice, uses
passive RFID technology.
However, do not get confused that a Microchip
acts like a GPS system where you can track the
whereabouts of your dog across the province, or
the country. It does NOT have this function. A few
other negatives is that the competitive nature of
the technologies will not allow some systems ‘talk’
to each other; as there are many types of systems
introduced in Vietnam. Finally, the shortage and
Mê Thú Cưng
availability of scanners for Vets, Animal rescue groups
etc. across the country is a very big issue and will not
be solved soon.
The only solution is a combination of awareness
programs and create a go-too website that acts as
an alert site where anybody could report a sighting
or the positive results of a scanning of a lost dog, in
Vietnamese and English. In the future Me Thu Cung
will help develop a website were you can post your
missing dog. We will work with various Veterinarians,
animal rescue organizations and other concerned
regular dog owners, and social media groups to
create an Lost Dog Alet Network to help you get your
stolen dog back to you.
