Message from the Honorary Consul for Grenada in Quebec

As we celebrate Spice Island Cultural Festival 2022 , we must hearken back to the year 2017 and the many months of kitchen meetings while cooking lambie and fish waters at the home of former Honorary Consul for Grenada in Montreal , Leonard A . Wharwood Jr . who is no longer with us , but remain in loving memory .
The Spice Island Cultural Day Association in Quebec ( SICDAQ ) is the brainchild of Leonard in his then continued efforts to promote the Grenadian culture in Canada , to foster intraculturalism and cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit that is within all of us . It is in his name that we continue this amazing cultural festival every year since 2018 that is now recognized as the premiere official celebration of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique in Montreal by the Government of Grenada and the Grenada Tourism Authority .
SICDAQ has also received endorsements from the Federal Government of Canada , the National Assembly for the Province of Quebec , and the City of Montreal which has been absolutely resolute in their support of Spice Island Cultural Festival in Montreal . This support continued during the two years of
2020 and 2021 of COVID 19 safety protocols which caused the festival to go virtual with an ever expanding worldwide audience .
As a proud Past President of SICDAC , 2017 to 2021 , and retaining the title of Special Consultant , I am grateful and appreciative to be a part of this vibrant group of Grenadians and friends of Grenada in Montreal that continue to strive for excellence . The success of this festival relies on the hard work of individuals and their sponsor partners . Despite decades of living in this great nation of Canada , their drive , energy and patriotism to promote and assist Grenada continues unabated .
May God continue to bless the nation of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique .
