Carlos Blaaker ’ s observations are acute , and his expressions of them through his art can be the subject of academic interpretations and lengthy , flavourful discussions amongst art aficionados . An artist , photographer and sculptor , you will find Carlos at his Willemstad studio in Curacao , conceptualizing his next creation .
He was born and raised in Suriname , studied art in New York then moved to the Netherlands where he lived for 18 years . He then relocated to Curacao , which has been his home for the past 11 years .
Carlos ’ creativity existed from childhood . He remembers his grandmother being annoyed with him because he would constantly ‘ reconstruct ’ almost everything in their house , much to the family ’ s displeasure . He was also the resident photographer . His mother worked with a company that sold Kodak cameras and dark room chemicals , so from a young age , he was already practicing photography and developing his own film .
