talk to you about their island in a manner that seems to suggest they are genuinely interested in ensuring that you experience as much of it as you can , and that you enjoy the experience !

Pigeon Island

Tanning oil in hand , I headed towards a calm beach spot on Pigeon Island with members of my tour group , enjoyed a refreshing glass of pina colada , a dip in the ocean , then relaxed on the beach , as the cool Caribbean breeze lulled me to sleep . However you choose to spend your time on Pigeon Island , it will be time well spent . I was not moved to try the underwater adventures that day , but if you are interested in seeing marine life up-close , walking on the sea floor and having an all-round awesome time with the marine inhabitants , then you can definitely do this quite easily as there are tour companies offering this service .

Canaries

The charming little fishing village of Canaries rests on the island ’ s west coast in calmness and a whole lot of contrast with the rest of Saint Lucia . I learned that as recent as the 1960 ’ s the only way to get to Canaries was by boat . This has since changed and vehicular transportation can now get you there , but boats are still important to the villagers who are mainly fisher-folks . The people here live very simple lives and their welcoming nature is heart-warming , very friendly ! The coolest event takes place here every other Saturday night of the month . The village holds its Creole Pot street party which is very local and lots of fun . If you want to try the island ’ s national dish of saltfish and green bananas , for sure , you ’ ll find this here ! And with vendors donning their national dress , live entertainment , DJ music , dancing in the street and lots of Creole food , the Saturday night vibe is just right !
Now , I ’ ve got to give a shout out to the beautiful people of Saint Lucia . They ’ ll feed you their best food , offer help as you walk along the street , and welcome you into their homes as if it was your very own . I ventured into many villages , sometimes alone , other times as part of a tour group , and I was truly heartened by the warm reception I received - from the tour guides , retail clerks at the stores , restaurant workers , vendors at stalls , people just hanging out on the streets - all eager to help and maybe unwittingly , give me a reason to return .
I encourage you to book your next Caribbean trip to the staggeringly beautiful and welcoming Saint Lucia .
You can thank me later !
