The Quill places of interest Smoke Alley Beach Calm waters on this beach makes it good for swimming, and the smooth carpet of sand invites sun worshippers. For those who enjoy snorkeling, you can do this here too and equipment can be easily obtained from the dive shops nearby. The Quill, which dominates St. Eustatius’ landscape, contains a number of different vegetation zones which varies with altitude, ranging from evergreen seasonal forest inside the crater to elfin forest on the rim. The forest inside the crater is closely related to rainforest, with the highest tree being about 40m. While on a hike, animals to watch out for are the endangered iguana delicatissima and the non- poisonous red bellied racer snake. The last eruption of the Quill dates back to 400AD. - STENAPA Photo Credit: Cees Timmers Photography Photo Credit: Cees Timmers Photography
