Saint Lucia is one of the most scenic islands in the
Caribbean for diving and snorkelling. In the town
of Soufriere, the Pitons extend underwater to
create some of the most beautiful and colourful
diving sites.
Every Friday night the town of Gros Islet hosts
a weekly ‘Jump Up’ or street party where locals
prepare barbecue street food and spiced rums.
Party goers dance to live music well into the early
morning. Located across town in the fishing village
of Anse-La-Raye there is a “Friday Night Fish Fry”,
the streets are filled with visitors and locals who
line the beach front to listen to music and enjoy
freshly caught fish.
Saint Lucia is also a perfect family destination.
There are plenty of all-inclusive resorts in Saint
Lucia that cater to families such as Coconut Bay
Beach Resort, located in the South of the island
just minutes away from the airport, the property
has a fantastic kids club, waterpark and their own
lazy river. Bay Gardens Resort located on the north
side of the island is home to Splash Island, the
Caribbean’s first inflatable open-water sports park,
perfect for wet family fun.
Share with us some of the niche activities
and events St. Lucia offers to its visitors.
Saint Lucia has a rich history of traditional arts and
crafts, still evident across the island. For instance,
Choiseul, a small village south of Soufriere, people
of Carib origin retain century old traditions of
twining vines into baskets and molding clay into
pots. Their work can be purchased at the Choiseul
Art and Craft Centre.
Venture 30 minutes south of Soufriere to Laborie
and step into a Caribbean painting of narrow
streets, French colonial architecture and fishing
boats. The village is noted for its observance of
vibrant Creole culture, black sand beaches and
seaweed harvesting. Fishermen still blow into the
conch shell to announce their arrival with the day’s
catch.
