Simón Bolívar Plaza In this quiet, scenic square in La Asuncion, the statue of Simón Bolívar stands regally, proudly surveying the people and scenery around his stationary home. He is held in high esteem and viewed as the Latin American countries liberator who wrested them from Spain’s rule - Venezuela Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama. His was a life of political turmoil and he died of tuberculosis in 1830 at the age of 47.
