Weaving with
Silver Thatch
The Silver Thatch Palm is the national tree of the Cayman
Islands. It was once used to thatch the roof of houses. Shoes,
baskets and hats were also made from the leaves of this tree.
Today, the art of weaving the leaves together to make these
items live on. Many silver thatch-weaved items can be seen in
souvenir shops throughout the islands.
