roots in Trinidad and Tobago, and therefore
appeals to something inside all of us that
yearns for rhythmic self-expression. What I love
most about the current state of pan in Belize
is that there are more young people playing
steel pan now than ever before. The music is
becoming more relevant to young people,
the arrangements are getting more creative
and intricate, and the overall level of playing is
rapidly improving.
About his future aspirations
In the future, my biggest goal is to continue
to contribute to the development of music
in Belize, both pan related and otherwise. My
biggest personal goal is to make more of a name
for myself as a composer. I have entered Belize’s
national song competition three times and
won twice. I recently composed the music for
the UWI’s Department of Creative and Festival
Arts Theatre Unit production of “The Crucible,”
and I recently became one of the only Music
Department students to get approval to hold
a final year recital, not as a performer, but as a
composer. I hope to hold this recital in March of
2019.
About his Belize
I love being an ambassador for as well as a
tourist in my own country. No other country in
the world offers the unique array of sceneries,
landscapes, wildlife, cultures, and food that
Belize does. On any given weekend, I could
travel to Placencia to relax on the beach, or
Caye Caulker as a hub to go snorkel the largest
living barrier reef on earth. I love visiting Cayo
to visit my favorite Maya Temple, Xunantunich,
or go cave tubing through one of our rivers. I
believe that I am blessed to have been born in
Belize. Therefore, I do everything I can to fully
appreciate all the beauty that my country has to
offer. “
