Art Studio
Walter Castillo paints with acrylic on canvas. He is
fascinated with the landscape of Belize, its people,
everyday life, its flora and fauna. Just living in the
country of Belize is a source of inspiration for him,
everyday.
When Walter was about 4 years old, he and his
family immigrated to Belize to escape from the
civil war taking place in Nicaragua at that time.
They settled in San Pedro, Ambergris. As a young
boy, Caye Caulker was his playground.
Painting started for him as a teenager, first on
paper then he gravitated to T-shirts. Walter said,
“I was working at a dive shop in San Pedro and to
my surprise, they wanted my hand painted T- shirts!
They encouraged me to keep on painting.” He was
invited to his first exhibition at Cavendish Square
London in 1990, by the Bliss Institute. He has
been painting since then and has now attended
other shows in Portugal, USA, Taiwan, Italy and
Germany.
The Walter Castillo Art Studio is located in the
village of Bullet Tree Falls, Cayo, San Ignacio. It is 10
minutes from the town of San Ignacio; a 2.5 hour
drive from Belize International Airport and a 20
minute drive from Maya Flats airstrip.
