Anguilla Iguana Fest
The Lesser Antillean iguana is a critically endangered species which lives
only on Anguilla and five other Caribbean islands: Saint Barth, St. Eustatius,
Guadeloupe, Dominica, and Martinique. They are not found any where else
in the world.
A sanctuary was established on Prickly Pear East by the Anguilla National
Trust (ANT) protecting those living on Anguilla from hunting by humans,
loss of habitiat and predators such as the mongoose.
In April every year, the ANT holds an Iguana Fest to sensitize the population
about the need to protect this endangered species. The festival includes a
hike, plus fun activities for all members of the family.
