Cooper Island

There are two theories on how this island got its name. One theory suggests the name derives from the first Dutch settlers on the island who were called Koop. The second says it’ s from the coopers who collected white cedar from the island which was used to make barrels to house their rum. Today, the island is a favourite for day trips and it is also quite popular with yachties. It has now re-opened after 2017’ s Hurricane Irma, complete with its hotels, restaurants and the largest rum bar around. Its waters also present great snorkeling opportunities.
