Hiking through the RAINFOREST in Montserrat
In stark contrast to the southern part of the island which bears the indelible mark of the Soufriere Hills volcanic eruption, the north is green and lush with its rainforest offering eco-tourists and bird watchers many opportunities to appreciate nature at its best. Nothwithstanding the heat of the Caribbean sun, a walk through the rainforest is an enjoyable experience. The trails are never crowded and with or without a guide, armed with safe hiking shoes and drinking water, you can explore. Walking for one or two hours, you may encounter iguanas, small snakes, and many other species of wildlife. Birdwatchers, be on the lookout for Montserrat’s national bird, the Oriole and over 34 species of other birds which live in and around the rainforest. Bird and wildlife spotting isn’t all you’ll experience on a hike. You’ll also be treated to magnificent views of the land and coastline while trekking through the rainforest. Montserrat
