Bird Watching in Bonaire | Mélange Travel & Lifestyle Magazine
Boanire is home to over 200 species of birds. 14,000 acreas of land in northern Bonaire, formerly Washington & Slagbaai plantations are now designated a National Park. This is a prime area for bird watching. The Pekelmeer Sanctuary in the south is also an ideal birdwatching area. Take a drive through this area and you are sure to see flamingos, egrets, herons and many other species of birds.
Turtles can be seen in the waters of 1000 Steps Beach located on the west coast of the island. Here you can dive and snorkel in the pristine waters or take in the lovely view from the top of the 67 steps which earned the beach its name - not 1,000 steps, after all, only 67 but on the way up these limestone steps really do seem like 1,000.
