The Road, Saba
Due to Saba’s rocky terrain, it was believed
that alas, a road could never be built on
the island! But engineer Josephus Lambert
Hassell proved all the non-believing engineers
wrong. He gathered his group of local
helpers together and, over a nine-year period,
constructed this concrete road which was
completed in 1938.
The sculpted rock face around this volcanic
island cradles the winding road which weaves
its way through the island’s four villages.
Behold dramatic, breath-taking scenery at
every turn!
Saba is beautiful.
