Thousands of fruit bats cover the walls of Montserrat’s Bat Cave and the cacophony of bat
voices resonating throughout this enclosed space may give you the chills. But this is one
of the island’s more popular dive sites, and divers get the rare opportunity to see these
interesting creatures in their native habitat. The bats are important to the island as they assist
with pollination, insect control and seed dispersal. Bat guano is also a rich fertilizer.
