Fort Amsterdam
Offering some of the most stunning photo opportunities for panoramic views of the island, Fort
Amsterdam was built around 1631 by the Dutch. In succeeding years, the Spanish, French and British
who would have occupied the island at various times, also made good use of this strategically placed
Fort which sits on a peninsula between Great Bay and Little Bay. Several ruins and cannons still remain
on this historical site which has become a nesting ground for Pelicans. Located a mere 3 km away
from Philipsburg, it is easy to get here. Your reward will be the fantastic views of the city and the
Caribbean sea.
