Unspoiled Queen Revellers
is the brainchild of two
young, talented Saban
ladies, Sharmina Jones and
Gabriella Granger, whose
collective vision of colourful
masqueraders partying on
the streets of Saba became
a reality in May 2017. Their
passion for art, culture
and music are beautifully
displayed during the island’s
Carnival celebrations.
Although masqueraders are
part of Saba’s carnival, over
the years there was a decline
in the number of troupes
participating in this summer
festival. Sharmina and
Gabriela were determined to
revive this colourful cultural
expression and saw leading a
troupe as their contribution
to their annual, much-
anticipated festival.
Shamina said: “What I like most
about Saba Carnival is that
we all come together for one
full week in unity, to have fun,
showcase and highlight our
culture, art and talents, while
jamming away together to
beautiful, trendy Soca music,
enjoying the taste of BBQ, local
dishes and island flair . . . ”
