What got you interested in
reggae music?
In the1980’s, I started listening to artists
such as Alpha Blondy, Steel Pulse, Aswad,
Black Uhuru and the like. One of the 1st
records I bought was Alpha Blondy’s
“Apartheid Is Nazism” which a friend
introduced to me and it’s still a favourite
of mine. After leaving Australia and
backpacking around the world, I found
myself where reggae music was more
mainstream and part of the music culture,
versus the rock/pop culture of Australia.
Exposure to reggae music in places like the
Caribbean coastline of Central America and
Brixton in London and attending reggae
dances/parties in these places is where
I moved to the next level in my reggae
music journey, learning more about artists,
producers, riddims and Jamaican history.
On returning to Brisbane I experienced a
bit of culture shock with no places to go
for reggae music in Brisbane. So basically I
decided to start doing some myself.
