Basseterre
Basseterre is the capital of St. Kitts
where, on their buildings, you’ll still
get a hint of fine Georgian architecture
which once graced this town. Despite
having a French name, meaning lower
ground, the town’s old slave market
and now its main square is called Pall
Mall and a nearby Green Clock tower
and fountain are known as Piccadilly
Circus or The Circus. Just like their
namesakes in London, these are great
places for people-watching.

The Treasury Building
and National Museum,
Basseterre
The old Treasury Building dating back to
1894 was also known as the gateway to the
island as it’s archway is located at the exit
from the pier. Today the building houses the
National Museum and it’s exhibits portray
an overview as to what life was like on the
island throughout its history.

Petroglyphs, adjacent to
Romney Manor
There are many rocks containing Petroglyphs
(rock carvings) left by the Carib Indians prior
to the Europens arrival in the 17th century
but two of the best examples are located near
Romney Manor. Although these petroglyphs
may seem newly painted, they are in fact
authentic but there is some debate as to
whether they represent Carib Gods or are
fertility symbols.
