New River-Coconut Walk
Estates
Until it was closed in 1958, New River Estate
was the largest sugar mill on the island. Just
south of the St James drag-racing track on
Nevis’s eastern, Atlantic Coast, the mill now
lie in ruins but visitors can still be amazed at
the size of the machinery and the elegance
of the chimney and volcanic stone colonnade
which formed part of the now ruined Great
House. From here it is also great for scenic
views of the coast and Montserrat in the
distance.

are weapons, clay pots and calabash bowls
whilst the later era gingerbread chattel
house has displays containing flour bag
dresses and patchwork quilts.
