Centre Hills
Home to many reptiles and amphibians, the Centre Hills are an area covered in tropical rainforest, known to also be home to no fewer than 34 species of land birds and numerous migrating song birds. On a visit to these hills, visitors may see the island’ s national bird, the threatened Montserrat Oriole as well as other rare sights like the Mangrove Cuckoo, Bridled Quail Dove or the Forest Thrush.

Woodlands Bay
Close to a village on the southwest end of the island’ s northern zone is the peaceful Woodlands Bay. Although the beach is peaceful and can be relaxing, the waters here are rough and dangerous to swim in. The bay is still popular though as on the cliffs above there is a picnic area which is a good vantage point from which to see migrating whales.

Runaway Ghaut
On Montserrat a Ghaut, pronounced Gut, is a deep ravine which carries rainwater from the high hills of the island to the sea. Although the island has many of these ghauts, one has become a popular attraction with visitors. Known as the Runaway Ghaut, this ravine has tall tropical trees and a legend which predicts that anyone that sips from the spring water in the ravine is destined to return to Montserrat.
