PLACES OF INTEREST Anse Cafard Slave Memorial 20 white stone effigies stand silent in memory of the slaves who died, in 1830, still chained in the cargo hold, as their ship hit Diamond Rock and capsized. Signs in both English and French tell the story of the tragedy and visitors to the memorial, on their way to or from Diamond Beach, say they are humbled by the effigies as they stand by them for photo ops.
