Fort Louis Delgrès, Basse-Terre
This Fort, once called Fort St. Charles, overlooks the town of Basse-Terre. Its history
includes French-British struggles for the island and also the Guadeloupean resistance to
slavey. It was renamed Fort Louis Delgres in honour of the man who fought valiantly to
resist the re-introduction of slavery in Guadeloupe.
