far, are note-worthy. She received top awards
at her high school graduation in 2017 for
Physics and Biology, and also captured the
Island Scholar award having topped the
Caribbean Secondary School Examinations.
At Dominica State College, she won the top
Physics Student and Student Ambassador
recognition. She taught Integrated science,
Biology and Spanish at Dominica’s Orion
Academy, and now teaches Biology, Physics
and Religion at the Convent High School.
She served as the president of her High
School’s Anti-bullying movement; was an
active member of the Dominica Girl Guides
Association and is an active member of the
Rotaract Club of Roseau and very much
involved in her church’s youth ministry.
Impressively, Marisol is the proud owner of
“Sol’s Academy”, an after school tutoring
programme which she uses to give back
to community by providing students
very affordable extra classes and exam
preparation.
She hopes to one day earn a Bachelor of
Science degree in Biomedical Technology.
It was at the age of nine that Marisol first
discovered her interest in pageantry.
Although quite timid as a child, she
participated in a primary school pageant,
and won 2nd place. Over the years, she
worked on building her self-confidence
and by 2019, was ready to take on the
stage which she did in a winning fashion,
capturing the Miss Dominica crown and
going on to represent her country at the
Miss OECS 2019 pageant.
Being part of this pageant was an
unforgettable experience for Marisol. She
had the honour of being the first to represent
her country after the pageant’s 20 year hiatus
and made her country proud. “The journey
was still fun and ultimately rewarding. I made
friendships with the other delegates that I
am convinced will last a lifetime,” said Marisol.
Dressed in a stunning red gown, designed by
Letetia Butler Moses and expertly put together
by Karl Williams of Uzuri International, she
captured the Best Evening Wear title.
As a teacher, Marisol always strives to inspire
younger generations and influence them to
become better. She shares some words of
advice, “love yourselves unconditionally, know
what you want, know what you like and desire.
Once you have established that, go for it and
don’t you dare look back. Too many times as
young people we second guess ourselves,
get distracted or simply have no hope. But
all of that belongs within us. It is up to you to
channel all of it into what you desire. .”
Marisol gracefully said: “The Miss OECS
pageant was my final pageant as Miss
Dominica 2019, and I must say, it was a
pleasure”
Marisol recently launched the
ROYAL program which aims to
empower young people across
Dominica and reintroduce
morals and values that have
been lost throughout the years
due to the advent of technology.
