Runaway Ghaut
Deep ravines carrying rainwater from Silver Hills,
Centre Hills, and Soufrière Hills into the sea are
known as Ghauts. The island has many of these
ghauts but water does not flow through them
continuously, however, there is one known as
the Runaway Ghaut, a popular tourist attraction,
which is a bit different. You will always find
cool, running water here and it is rumored
that anyone who drinks from it must return to
Montserrat! These ghauts are important to the
island’s ecosystem and water supply.
