Two Historical Landmarks
to Visit
Christ Church
Cathedral
Although the current building on the site was constructed in 1841, a church has stood on these
grounds since 1670 and it was then the first church ever built in the Bahamas. The current Christ
Church Cathedral now occupying this location is known as the “Mother Church” of all of the Anglican
churches in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. You are welcome to visit and stay for one of
the masses if you are so inclined. It is located on George Street, Nassau. Read more of its history here.

Parliament
Square
An impressive cluster of buildings hugs this square located on Bay Street, Nassau. These buildings
are the seat of Government, constructed by the Loyalists in 1815, within which a wealth of history
now reside. Parliament, the Senate, the offices of the Leader of the Opposition and the Supreme
Court are in this historic square and so too is a statue of Queen Victoria which was erected in 1905.
