Hurricane Dorian impacted just two of the country’s northernmost islands:
Grand Bahama Island and Abaco.
The vast majority of The Bahamas was not impacted and has remained open as normally
scheduled.
“The tourism industry accounts for more than half the country’s GDP, and our outlook remains strong.
Despite a decline in arrivals following Hurricane Dorian, we are encouraged by projections that
indicate a 2-4% increase for first quarter of 2020. Considering there has been a double digit increase
in airlift to Nassau, as well as continued commitment and support by a number of partners and world-
renowned events, we are optimistic that our tourism sector will prove its resilience.”

Grand Bahama Island is rebounding with visitors already arriving by cruise ship and ferry,
and many of its major hotels and attractions are open. The Grand Bahama Island International
Airport resumed international service at temporary facilities on November 15, 2019.
THE ABACOS face a longer road to recovery, but the country remains resilient and steadfast in its
commitment to help the island rebuild.
