This plantation was once in ruins but has now been restored enough to allow visitors to take
guided tours to learn more about the days when it produced sugar, rum and molasses. A stop
off at the visitor’s center may allow you to witness a bread making session or basket weaving
demonstration.
Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge (St. Croix)
Due to this being primarily a refuge for the endangered leatherback turtles, this beach is closed to
the public during the months of April to August. Outside of these months, it is open to the public
only on weekends. Those two days are enough for you to make use of the pristine two-mile stretch
of sand although you will have no shade from the scorching Caribbean sun. This refuge is also a bird
habitat so you can bird-watch and also snorkel if you wish.
