St. Kitts Carnival
Unlike many of the other Caribbean islands, St. Kitts’ carnival
takes place during the Christmas season. Beginning in
November and culminating early January, the island enjoys
a Christmas season that is indeed unique.
Carnival or Sugar Mas’ is a colourful expression of the island’s
African and European heritage, blended into the existing
Caribbean culture that has been crafted for generations
during and after colonialism and slavery.
Folklore troupes tell traditional stories of a bygone era and
modern mas’ bands with their masqueraders gyrating to the
pulsating sounds of soca and calypso music, brings to us the
carnival of today. Together, they give a cultural presentation
that is colourful, mesmerizing and entertaining.
From November 17th, 2017 to January 6th, 2018 the island
will be buzzing with festivity. Pageants, calypso and soca
competitions, parties, parades, steel pan music and of
course, Christmas.
When planning your Caribbean vacation next year, think of
visiting St. Kitts in time to enjoy some of their Sugar Mas’.
