Martinique Zoo The zoo is located in the heart of the Botanical Gardens. Housed on the grounds of a former plantation, its building, Anse Latouche is the oldest house in Martinique. The zoo has an impressive variety of animals, reptiles and birds and with all of the exhibits clearly notated in English and French, it is quite easy to follow. Everything is subtly built into the Habitation Latouche’s old plantation ruins which makes this site not only great as a zoo, but also presents a splendid history lesson. The 17th century Habitation Latouche was destroyed by volcano in 1902 but its ruins remain. A path takes you around the zoo and over a small river, which adds to the zoo’s charm. There is also restaurant on site and also a small pirate museum. This is a highly recommended visit for families. Photo Credit: Martinique Zoo
