Swimming with the Pigs
On the uninhabited island of Big Major Cay, you will be enthralled with the unique sight of swimming pigs. These pigs live on the island’ s sandy beaches, bask in the sun and swim in the surf sometimes in the company of visitors to the island.
It is thought that the pigs were dropped off to this island by sailors who intended to return at some point to eat them. Another story says they swam to safety from a nearby ship wreck. Today, approximately 20 pigs and piglets call this island home and happily swim at their leisure.
