Located in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo , this cathedral is steeped in history . It is said that the son of Christopher Columbus laid the first stone during its construction in 1514 . Impressive architecture , 14 interior chapels and a vaulted ceiling all adorn this piece of Dominican Republic history .
