About the forms of dance they studied and similarities if any , with Dancehall MIKHAIL : I formally studied and professionally trained in West African Traditions and Afrobeats for over 10 years . These dances of the African Diaspora have many similarities to Jamaican culture since the cultures are historically connected . This connection can be seen between Traditional West African Dances and Jamaican Traditional Folklore where there is drumming , dancing , and chanting . I also studied and trained in Modern Contemporary dance and classical ballet which in the essence of expression and technique are completely different styles from urban Dancehall . With Dancehall dancing , you can ’ t be too technical and shape the movement . If too much technique , it loses the purpose , intention , and essence of it which is freedom , fun , and self-expression .
About their greatest challenge MIKHAIL : The greatest challenge is balancing our time since we are the only two people currently doing everything in our business " KETCH DI VYBZ " ( PRODUCTION COMPANY ). From marketing , teaching , producing theatre productions , videography , photography , website design , and giving back to the community etc . We do it all ! It ' s a lot of work but we have grown to understand what we need to do as a business and the greatest part is that we love what we do .
JUDY : I would agree with Mikhail that balancing our time is the greatest challenge . We ’ re fortunate to combine our skills to be a strong team .
