Cathedral Basilica of the
Immaculate Conception
The is the largest church in the Caribbean, located at the square in Castries
named after St. Lucian poet and Nobel Laureate, Derek Walcott. Built in
1897, it is 200 ft long (61 m) by 100 ft wide (30 m). A beautiful mural with
intense colours designed by St. Lucian artist, Dunstan St.Omer decorates
the church’s interior. The island’s African heritage is clearly depicted on the
stained glass windows and dark-skinned religious figures within the church.
This Cathedral is the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. Lucia.
