Airport
Bramble Airport, named after one of Montserrat’s Chief Ministers William Bramble,
was located on the island’s east coast. The 1997 eruption of the Soufrière Hills volcano
severely damaged the airport and its terminal, rendering them unusable. For years,
only helicopters and boats facilitated travel to the island. In July 2005, the new Gerald’s
Airport, now renamed John A. Osborne Airport after another of Montserrat’s Chief
Ministers, John Osborne, was opened at the north end of the island.
