La Asunción Cathedral
Located in the Plaza Bolivar at La Asunción, Nueva Esparta state, this
is the oldest church in Venezuela. Originally built in 1571, it is now a
historical monument. On Saturdays a market is held outside at the
Plaza with local food, craft and drinks on sale. The Catholic religious
festival Our Lady of Assumption is held here every year in August.
