I
magine being invited to join friends
on a three-week sailing trip in the
Windward Islands! My husband,
Denis, and I had no hesitation when
we accepted that invitation! Our friends were
highly experienced sailors who knew the ins
and outs of bareboat chartering, so we knew
we’d be in good hands. Not only that, they’re
fun travel companions who know how to
enjoy life to the fullest.
We began our trip with a three-night stay
on the island of Grenada, then boarded the
boat and set sail. We spent two incredible
weeks exploring Carriacou, Sandy Island,
Petite Martinique, Union Island, Tobago Cays
and Bequia before finishing our trip with
three nights in Barbados. While every day
brought new highlights, stunning scenery,
and exciting adventures, one island that was
particulary unique and memorable was Petite
Martinique.
Petite Martinique is a tiny island just a short
distance from Carriacou. It has an area less
than 2.5 square kilometres and a population
of about 900. Life is s-l-ow here! If you’re
seeking a spot to unwind and unplug, don’t
miss this one. It’s a tropical paradise where life
is relaxed, the water is warm, and the people
are friendly.

Martinique.
Denis and I travel often. We always seek
new food experiences when we do. Food
plus adventure is so much more satisfying
than food without! New flavours, new scents,
shopping in local markets and eating locally
sourced and prepared meals make up a
major part of our travel memories. During
this sailing trip, we feasted on barracuda,
mackerel, conch fritters, mangoes, plantain,
oranges, callaloo and, of course, rum punch!.
I’m happy to share one of my favourite mango
recipes that has been popular on my food
blog, Flavour and Savour: Prawn Mango
Avocado Salad with Lemon-Lime Dressing.
