Isla Saona
Located to the south of the mainland, the picture-perfect beaches of this 42-square mile island attract more visitors than all the country’ s other national parks combined. Hotel construction is not permitted on the island, but tourists can take day trips to enjoy the beaches. Getting there by speedboat, catamaran, or motorboat passing by spectacular coastal scenery is half of the fun. Most trips leave from the Bayahibe town boat launch area. On the way, boats may stop at Palmilla beach, a very shallow area, or at the Catalinita sand bank.
