Fort Louis This Fort was built in 1789 to defend the warehouses at Marigot Port. Many fights took place here as the English would frequently attempt to raid the Port which stored salt, coffee, sugar cane and rum. It is now a historical site which offers magnificent views of Marigot, Simpson Bay Lagoon and the neighbouring island of Anguilla. © stmartinisland.org Orleans, the French Quarter The small fishing village of Orleans, also known as the French Quarter, is located close to the French/Dutch divide and although today it is only home to a few residents and some shops and therefore undeveloped, it offers visitors a glimpse into the past. This was the original French settlement on the island and still has some of the original 17th century structures. © Krish Gopal Friar’s Bay As many of the beaches on the French sector of the island cater to the scantily clad or nude sun worshippers, Friar’s Bay, also known as Anse des Pères, is more family friendly. It is also ideal for families as the waters are gentle and more appropriate for kids. The bay also has several bars and one, Kali’s Beach Bar, hosts a Full Moon Party complete with reggae and a bombastic bonfire plus plenty of food. Photo Credit: Richie Diesterheft
