PLACES OF INTEREST
The French and the Dutch have shared the island of St Martin peacefully for 350 years and although the Dutch
sector (St Maarten) may be more developed for tourism than the French sector (St Martin) it does not mean that
there are not as many places of interest on the French side. Here are a few:
Marigot
Marigot, the capital of
St Martin is possibly the
most French town in all the
Caribbean, perhaps even
being able to be compared
to any genuine French
market town. Here small
cafés, pastry shops and
bistros are interspersed
with Chanel and Lacoste
luxury boutiques. An
open-air market, open on
Wednesday and Saturday
mornings offers visitors a
chance to see the colorful
array of homegrown
produce and perhaps
sample some of the tropical
fruits and spices.
